Paul Bernhardt, BA
Multimedia Producer
Paul Bernhardt is an accomplished multimedia producer and video director who develops innovative original programming. He is known widely within the University community as a top-notch producer/director and is an emerging force in the independent filmmaking community. He is the DLG’s source for video, audio, and photography that we use in our websites, modules, and courses. Additionally, he is an editor, writer, photographer, and musician.
His recent projects include directing “Building and Sustaining Hospital Decontamination Teams” (29 min, 2007, high definition video) as well as directing and co-writing “Preparing Employees for Disaster in the Workplace,” (44 min, 2008, high definition video), as well as numerous short educational films on public opinion at the State Fair, environmental health, international fieldwork, student life, ergonomics, and other educational subjects.
He co-authored “Public Jobs: Private Data,” training designed for all employees in both the University of Minnesota and the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities systems, which recently received the Communicator’s Forum Maroon Award.
As an emerging filmmaker, his short film “Bridges,” conceived within days of the 35W bridge collapse, was featured at minnpost.com. His short film “Bronze” recently screened at the Minneapolis/St Paul International Film Festival.
Bernadette Gloeb, MLS
Education Specialist
Bernadette has worked in the School of Public Health for over 25 years, and has 8 years experience as distance education coordinator and course developer. She designs courses in WebVista and/or Moodle and enjoys showing faculty new tools for e-Learning. Bernadette also coordinates the SPH e-Learning Seminar series, hoping to engage more faculty and staff in using technology to deliver public health education.
Joel Dickinson, M.Ed.
Instructional Designer
Joel is recognized for his efforts in the advancement of multimedia design and development for educational programming. His previous work with the University of Minnesota Extension Service has won several awards and national attention, including being featured in US News & World Report. Joel has a B.S. in Graphic Design and is near completion of the M.Ed. in Curriculum & Instruction program with an emphasis in multimedia design and development, both from the University of Minnesota. His work includes educational video production; curriculum design and development; and program identity, packaging, and graphic design. He is also an accomplished music producer with several records that have gained international acclaim.
Jim Harpole
Distance Education Coordinator
Jim has 14 years of experience developing logical systems that improve efficiency and cost-effectiveness. He develops WebVista courses and their instructional design and is responsible for course management, which includes consultations with faculty, students, and SPH major coordinators.
Jason Hill, BS
Multimedia Programmer
Jason has over 10 years of experience designing systems that handle large amounts of data for dynamically generating online content. Early on in the module development process, Jason advises on new technologies and best practices. He has received multiple awards for the educational software he created for PLATO Learning.
Sara Hurley, MFA
Web Coordinator & Web Editor
Sara has 10 years of experience designing websites and writing for the web. Actively involved with the University’s community of web professionals, she co-launched the first Minnesota Web Conference in 2008 and is a part of the leadership for that annual event.

She is currently pursuing a PhD in Curriculum and Instruction with focuses on Learning Technologies and Culture & Teaching. This allows her to build experimental educational products and bring new knowledge bridging education and technology to the DLG’s projects.

Li Jiang, MS, MS
Educational Technology Specialist
Li is the DLG’s lead programmer. He designs and develops dynamic web applications and is a Windows/Linux server and database server admin, ensuring the security and functionality of our systems. Li has been responsible for the creation of robust database systems such as CPHEO’s “Gateway” and the School of Public Health’s faculty database. He has also developed distance learning applications for streaming audio/video online using Flash/Flash Communication Server technology.
Joe Mayo-Cullen, MBA
Marketing & Business Manager, Centers for Public Health Education and Outreach (CPHEO)
Joe has over 11 years of experience in supervision, project management, and serving the needs of faculty at the University of Minnesota. He supervises the Digital Learning Group, manages its budget, and procures the resources his team needs to get the job done. Joe analyzes potential business development opportunities and works with the CPHEO Management Team to strategically position the DLG for optimal performance. Joe is responsible for overall project management and the day-to-day operations of the team. He reports to senior management and external stakeholders. He works with vendors and negotiates contracts with potential clients.
Peter McLarnan
Multimedia Editor
Peter has 6 years of experience in video production and post production. He is also an experienced videographer, and has been working with Paul Bernhardt since 2006, producing video assets for the DLG.
